Hot Property Prepping DOGFIGHT, William Gibson Adaptation

In interview at Rotterdam International Film Festival this week, Simon Pummell revealed further details on his follow up to psychological sci-fi thriller, Brand New-U: an adaptation of cult writer William Gibson’s Dogfight.

“It is a film about gambling,” Pummell explained. “When I talked to (William) Gibson about it, he said it was a riff on The Hustler. The backbone of the film is the idea that every idea of improvement, quality and happiness in our life can be accounted for in money.”

BAFTA for Outstanding Debut goes to Kieran Evans for Kelly+Victor

Steve Coogan, who joked about being a young turk with a pager on his belt 25 years ago, presented Outstanding Debut to a surprised Kieran Evans for Kelly + Victor.

“I was definitely not expecting this,” said Evans. He thanked producer Janine Marmot for sticking by him for eight years,
as well as Warp’s Peter Carlton and Robin Gutch, plus Colin Burch and Julia Short at Verve.

He also thanked the city of Liverpool for inspiring the film. He thanked his mum for introducing him to Hitchcock films and his dad for driving him to art college.
